I love capturing live music through the medium of photography, it allows me to translate the essence and experience of watching bands play in a visual and physical way.
I find it to be an addictive type of photography- with sounds and lights constantly changing on stage, there is an endless stream of things to photograph.
I use both 35mm film and digital Canon cameras. For me, using film feels special, the limited number of frames encourages you be more selective and appreciate what you are photographing so much more. I use a high ISO Ilford film which adds an atmospheric grain.
My favourite part of gig photography is the process of choosing my favourite photos to create art from. Lyrics inspire me greatly so I always like to include some from my favourite songs in my artwork. Some of my artwork includes online zines that I publish, often including a collection of photos, lyrics and playlists!
