As Harry Shearer tells it, “the show started as a party in our home to try to comfort Judith, a Welsh woman prone to melancholia, who could not stand that the fact that Christmas in Southern California was about 78 degrees and sunny.” What began as a humble holiday house party to chase away Judith’s yuletide blues became a charity event and performance in 2005 when they staged it to aid the people of New Orleans after Katrina. This year’s shows in London, Chicago, LA and NOLA will benefit a variety of different charities raising money for the homeless, mental health and musician’s assistance (USA shows)

In year’s past ‘Christmas Without Tears,’ has welcomed Weird Al Yankovic, Tim Minchin, Jane Lynch, Richard Thompson, Donald Fagen, Catherine O’Hara, Alfie Boe, Maureen Lipman, Rob Brydon, Julia Fordham, Alan Cumming, Claire Martin, Stephen Merchant and Christopher Guest.

A tradition that began in Harry Shearer and Judith Owen’s Santa Monica home, these annual gatherings have grown into a heart-warming house party around the piano that involves and entertains fellow performers and audience members alike. Since 2005, when the first public performance was staged at the Walt Disney Concert Hall to aid the people of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Christmas Without Tears has been a guilt-free way of having fun and giving back. A portion of the proceeds from this London performance will benefit The West London Mission
